The study course acquaints students with the possibilities of using computer simulations for modeling and calculations of physical processes of materials. The study course is intended to get acquainted with two of the most popular computer programmes - COMSOL and ANSYS - for modeling of various physical processes. The study course provides an overview of the basic principles of computer software operation, user interfaces, object creation, modification and load creation possibilities as well as post-processing of calculation results and their evaluation. Possibilities and limitations of different modeling approaches and software platforms are discussed. The study course will also cover the basics of experimental design and mathematical analysis of results. The principles learned in the study course can be applied in all stages of engineering workflow, including the design of new products, optimisation of technological and production processes.
